I get asked 2 questions ALL the time! Where do you find your holiday dresses? What are you going to wear?…. this question is usually asked in a frantic tone of voice!! Now, the answer to these questions keeps me in business:) ….. but I also love to share my secrets! I started my business to help a woman uncover her inner confidence, what is rightfully hers as a lady, her unique beauty, and to carry all of those things as her INDIVIDUAL style. I have been a part of so many transformations, it blesses my socks … well stilettos… off:)
So, here comes my secret….
I have 3 timeless Nicole Miller dresses, you know me, 2 of those are black, each a different style. One with straps, one strapless, one off the shoulder. and I change my look by adding texture, vintage jewelry, updated shoes, jewelry, and clutches. I am going to break down 5 ways I keep my look fresh, updated, and stress free. This is why I don’t ever panic about a dress…. I know what fits me like a glove, and I stick with that. It saves money and stress… so I have more time to kiss my Emily, and to celebrate the event I am getting all dressed up for!
These are my top five update edits, when it comes to party dresses! ( pick one of them at a time,:)
- Add fur… this can be on your handbag, a stole, or I am currently REALLY into fur neck warmers. I add them to my strapless dress,or off the shoulder blouses (just an added bonus:)…. and people are always loving that look! I have 3 of those as well… are you picking up on any trends in my closet?:) Fur adds instant glam, and individuality based on your selection! Fur has been around, and it’s not leaving any time soon.
- Add something Sparkly or Sequins… I would add this in the form of a jacket draped over your shoulders, or your shoes! The key is picking ONE spot to do it….. we don’t want people seeing sequins… we want them seeing YOU with a little added sparkle:)
- Add a vintage jewelry piece…. I have pieces from my grandmother, but you can find brooches, necklaces, and earrings anywhere! I LOVE adding a brooch to a fur stole, a suitable neckline, or on a belt. This is an instant way to elevate your look, and stand out in a subtle way. The best part is, when people ask you where you got your jewelry…. you can say , oh this is a vintage piece .. and watch them be amazed with your clever sense of style:) Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me!:)
- Add Texture: Velvet, Satin, and Lace are my staples. I add velvet in a belt form which instantly updates the silhouette of the dress… depending on the width of the ribbon you choose:) I always tie it in a bow, sometimes that bow is in the back, sometimes to the side, sometimes front and center…. do you see where I am going with this? I also change the color based on my mood 🙂 You can do the same with lace or satin. Currently I am adding lace via lace chokers and underlays.
- Add Metallics: I love metallic purses, belts and shoes…. it’s all the rage currently, but it’s been around for a while. It’s instant glam for anything you are wearing… I love rose gold metallic best!
In summary, invest in your cocktail attire, it’s worth it. You will wear it time and time again. Pick timeless lines and silhouettes, do NOT go for trends. You want to take note from icons of timeless elegance and style. You want a dress that you will wear for years to come, and accentuates your very best features.
Follow what’s trending , ONLY in your updates… You don’t need a new dress for every occasion, you just need a new touch! Better yet, the money you save in the long run, give it to a child that wouldn’t have a Christmas, if it wasn’t for YOU! Those are the gifts that define lasting beauty.
